First, the duck stamp bill is officially in the books .With it will come a raise in the price . While no one likes to pay more for licenses, this hike may be the exception.
Even better news: A mandate was set for online sales of federal duck stamps to begin, making it possible to get your stamp at any time of the day or night, 365 days a year. A temporary stamp and bar code will be issued for online sales .
Finally, perhaps the biggest announcement was that of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service awarding over $21 million in grant money for several coastal and Great Lake wetland projects.
Even more newsworthy is the method of funding for these projects. This work will happen with revenues generated by the National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program, which is funded in large part by Sport Fish Restoration Act revenue. This revenue, is generated directly from taxes on hunting and fishing equipment and the fuel we burn in our boats.
So, once again, sportsmen are paying the bill for the environment.
